Dealing with Obsession and Compulsive Thoughts

Obsessive thoughts and compulsions can be challenging to deal with, but there are several effective ways to manage them. One of the best ways to stop obsessive thoughts is to address your anxiety overall. This can be done by seeking therapy, practicing meditation and mindfulness, and finding ways to distract yourself. It’s also important to acknowledge your thoughts and recognize the patterns and name them. Accepting that it’s out of your control but manageable can also help.

Another suggestion is that recognizing harmful thought patterns is the first step in learning how to stop obsessive thoughts. By increasing your awareness of obsessive thinking, you can find better ways to cope with thoughts as they arise. Work on how you react when you find you’re thinking obsessively or engaging in compulsions.

I hope these tips help you manage your obsessive thoughts and compulsions. If you need further assistance, please contact me via my Get in Touch page https://www.dragonflytherapy.co.za/contact/.

What is CBT?

What is CBT? Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapeutic treatment that helps people learn how to identify and change the destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on their behavior and emotions. CBT is based on the idea that psychological problems are based, in part, on faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking, and learned patterns of unhelpful behavior. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns by identifying negative thoughts, gaining a better understanding of the behavior and motivation of others, using problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations, and learning to develop a greater sense of confidence in one’s abilities. CBT also usually involves efforts to change behavioral patterns by facing one’s fears instead of avoiding them, using role-playing to prepare for potentially problematic interactions with others, and learning to calm one’s mind and relax one’s body. CBT has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than, other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications. It is important to emphasize that advances in CBT have been made on the basis of both research and clinical practice. Indeed, CBT is an approach for which there is ample scientific evidence that the methods that have been developed actually produce change.

Letting Go

Hypnotherapy can help people who suffer from heartbreak and struggle to let go of their emotions by addressing the root causes of their pain, such as unresolved trauma, attachment issues, low self-esteem, or negative beliefs. Hypnotherapy can also help them to release the emotional charge associated with their ex-partner, and to reframe their experience in a more empowering way. By doing so, hypnotherapy can help them to heal their wounds, regain their confidence, and move on with their lives.

Anxiety caused by OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that involves intrusive and unwanted thoughts, feelings, or urges (obsessions) that cause anxiety and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that aim to reduce the anxiety. Hypnosis is a healing modality that uses a state of focused attention and relaxation to access the subconscious mind and create positive changes. Some people with OCD may benefit from hypnosis as a way to cope with their anxiety and reduce their compulsions. However, hypnosis is not a cure for OCD and should be used in conjunction with other evidence-based treatments, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) and medication. Hypnosis may help people with OCD by enhancing their motivation, increasing their self-efficacy, reducing their negative beliefs, and providing them with coping skills and relaxation techniques.

Smoking and Hypnosis

Why is it when we decide to give up on habits that no longer serve us well, that we so often fail at these attempts and eventually we get back to where we started? The truth of it is, we have a conscious and subconscious mind and unless you align the two, the new behaviors or habits won’t work for you.

How many hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

Many people who seek hypnotherapy often introduce themselves using their name when attending their first session with their chosen Hypnotherapist. The second most common question they ask is, “how many sessions do you think I will need”? Before a hypnotherapist can determine an estimated timeline regarding how many sessions a person may need, it is imperative that the initial session is used to establish the personal details of the person as well as what challenges are being experienced. It is very difficult to say with certainty exactly how many sessions a client may need but it is helpful to give an idea of what to expect. Goals and objectives must be set and these are reviewed, updated and be discussed at the beginning of each session to determine the progress being made and how many additional (if any) sessions are required
